Destination Colorado: Hot Springs to Relax and Rejuvenate

October 7, 2024

With fall bringing cooler temperatures across Colorado, it’s an ideal time to hit the road to enjoy hot springs across the state.

Strawberry Park Hot Springs

Located 7 miles from Steamboat Springs, Strawberry Park Hot Springs is nestled in a dense forest, providing serenity in a beautiful mountain landscape. Surrounded by towering evergreens with the soothing sounds of streams that feed into the springs, this is an ideal destination if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle.

There are guest cabins, a caboose, covered wagon, and camping options on site for a fun, rustic experience. Adult guests staying on property can access the hot springs after sunset. Note that from November 1st to May 1st, a four-wheel drive vehicle with snow tires is required to access Strawberry Park.

For an in-town lodging option, Gravity Haus is located at the base of Steamboat Resort, with a fitness facility, coffee bar, and the White Rabbit Tavern if you prefer more amenities. Stroll down Steamboat’s Lincoln Avenue to explore local shops, cafes, and galleries. Paying homage to the town’s ranching heritage, F.M. Light & Sons is a must-visit store with authentic Western wear so you can channel your inner cowboy or cowgirl. To round out the Western outfit, design a custom hat at the Steamboat Hatter.

After a long soak, enjoy a delicious dinner at Laundry Kitchen & Cocktails. Located in the historic Soda Creek building that housed the Steamboat Laundry from 1910 – 1977, it’s now a fantastic restaurant loved by locals and visitors alike. Favorite dishes include eggplant poutine, bison carpaccio, or pimiento cheese for starters and miso black cod, elk chops, or fried chicken for entrees.

Don’t forget to take some photos with the steamy hot springs surrounded by trees or pull off the road on your drive to Strawberry Park for some great images of the woods.

Mt. Princeton Hot Springs

Surrounded by the Collegiate Peaks’ 14,000-foot mountains, Mt. Princeton Hot Springs is located in Nathrop, near Buena Vista, with a variety of places to soak. Relax in the natural rock-ringed spaces in the creek or man-made pools. With the rugged background of Mt Harvard, Mt Yale, Mt Columbia, and Mt Oxford along with its namesake mountain providing dramatic views, it’s an unforgettable experience.

On South Main Street in Buena Vista, the Surf Hotel is a boutique lodging option with a restaurant, lobby bar, and lawn overlooking the whitewater park on the Arkansas River.

Browse for books and art supplies at the charming Once Upon a Trapeze  or stock up on outdoor gear at the Trailhead. After working up an appetite, stop by Crave on Main Street for renowned pizza, salads, and Italian-inspired dishes.

Make sure to snap a morning photo of the hot springs with steam rising and the snow-capped mountains as a backdrop.

Iron Mountain Hot Springs

In the beautiful Roaring Fork Valley’s Glenwood Springs, Iron Mountain Hot Springs features a large family pool with a jetted spa, Sopris Café for refreshments, and lovely views of the mountains. There are also 16 additional smaller pools along the bands of the Colorado River. Adults can enjoy the new WorldSprings area with 11 small geothermal pools, one freshwater pool with waterfalls, one pool inspired by the Dead Sea, and a cold plunge pool.

With options ranging from lodge rooms and suites to cozy cabins across its 70 acres, the Mt. Princeton Hot Springs Resort is the most convenient place to stay while enjoying the springs. With a spa and fitness center on the property as well as the Mary Murphy Steakhouse, it’s truly a one-stop destination for relaxation.

The Hotel Colorado, a historic property built in 1893 by silver baron Walter Devereux, boasts signature suites and classic rooms that have hosted guests including William Howard Taft, Molly Brown, and Theodore Roosevelt. Located downtown, The Pullman is open nightly beginning at 4:30pm with farm-to-table fare that changes seasonally and features local ingredients.

The pedestrian-friendly downtown area Glenwood Springs offers an array of charming shops and galleries. Treadz has an outstanding selection of footwear and accessories for the mountain lifestyle. Toad & Co has you covered with active wear and casual clothing to take you from hiking to the coffee shop.

Framed by the shape of Mt Sopris from the valley floor and the Roaring Fork River, the pools at Iron Mountain are a great spot to take a photo to remember a fun weekend in the mountains.
