Destination Colorado: Summer in Bloom with Wildflowers and Glamping

May 29, 2025

If summer days have you dreaming of meadows filled with wildflowers, starry skies, and cozy nights under canvas tents, Colorado has plenty of beautiful places to explore.

From the Front Range to the San Juans, Colorado showcases vibrant color each summer with dazzling displays of wildflowers — and you don’t have to rough it to enjoy the show. Even if you prefer luxurious linens to hiking in and pitching a tent, here’s a guide to enjoy wildflowers and glamping throughout the state.

Front Range Fun: Excellent Escapes Close to the City

Golden Gate Canyon State Park is only 30 miles west of Denver and is known for columbine, paintbrush, and lupine along its 35+ miles of trails. The Mule Deer Trail is a gorgeous option for open meadows and hillsides covered in color.

Clear Creek Getaway is perched in a scenic location near Idaho Springs and the hiking area around St Mary’s Glacier. This is a fun option with A-frame cabins as well as domed tents just outside Golden.

Boulder
Chautauqua Park
is a prime spot for early-season blooms in late May to early July, while higher elevation hikes like Arapaho Glacier Trail offer wildflowers later in the summer including elephant heads and sky pilot.

With options ranging from cabins to suites with jacuzzis to tent camping, the A-Lodge Boulder will have you ready for adventure with a creekside pavilion, slack-lining area, community saloon, and pool.

The Colorado Chautauqua Cottages are a National Historic Landmark with cozy cottages and lodge rooms available just minutes from downtown Boulder with views of the Flatirons.

Colorado Springs

For beautiful wildflowers, head to North Cheyenne Cañon Park, a 1,600-acre park that features a dramatic canyon as well as a waterfall that provide a stunning spot for photos.

Or venture along the Pikes Peak Highway for alpine meadows full of bluebells, old man of the mountain, and Indian paintbrush.

West of Colorado Springs, the Royal Gorge Cabins has glamping options galore. Stay in the queen tents with a redwood deck, bed, love seat, and an outdoor porch with chairs and table for soaking up the views. Or select a double queen tent on a concrete slab with in-floor radiant heat for chilly mornings and a large outdoor patio with more seating.

Summit County

The Peaks Trail between Frisco and Breckenridge is a wildflower wonderland in mid-summer. You’ll likely see larkspur, asters, and wild geraniums amid the forest.

Breckenridge’s Bivvi is a rustic mountain lodge that’s ideal for adventurers with a dedicated gear room to stash your bike and hiking boots. Accommodations range from bunk rooms to a hot tub suite with a fireplace and balcony so you can rest and wake up refreshed for a day of hiking or biking in the high country.

Vail Valley

Shrine Ridge Trail near Vail Pass is a must-visit spot with 360-degree views. Keep your eyes peeled for  purple monkshood and yellow arnica.

The Tennessee Pass yurts are furnished with handcrafted log beds, down comforters, and wood stoves to keep you warm and cozy after a day in the mountains. Each yurt sleeps up to six people with a full/double bed, and a full/double over a full/double bunk bed. Book early as these reservations are quick to fill.

Crested Butte
Crested Butte has earned its title of the Wildflower Capital of Colorado. Snodgrass Mountain, the Lupine Trail, and Gothic Valley bloom with vibrant colors all summer long.

Campfire Ranch on the Taylor has sites for dispersed tent camping as well as a Micro Cabin which sleeps two people, for a cozy and comfortable option. All campers have access to metal-ring fire pits, a grill, picnic table and unlimited supply of firewood as well as gear carts to move your supplies to your campsite.

Telluride
Bridal Veil Falls and the basins around Imogene Pass are filled with fiery Indian paintbrush, columbine, and forget-me-nots.

Situated on 500 acres on the Dolores River, the Dunton River Camp is one of Colorado’s most luxurious destinations. Eight luxury tents offer amenities including en-suite bathrooms with six-foot soaker tub/showers, hot water, and even towel warmers. Each tent has two mountain bikes for guests’ use during their stay as well so you can hit the trails anytime.

Winter Park & Grand County

The Jim Creek Trail and Second Creek Trail offer a stunning mix of mountain and meadow blooms with moderate elevation gains and panoramic views.

In a scenic locale near Granby, YMCA of the Rockies’ Snow Mountain Ranch is perched on 5,100 scenic acres. The yurts are available from June through October for an ideal place to stay with a queen bed, two sets of bunk beds, WiFi, a picnic table, fire ring and more.

As summer brings colorful wildflowers across the state, make plans to stay in some luxurious lodges and glamping destinations. Bring your hiking boots so you can hit the trails and enjoy the bright palette across the meadows.
